Ruins of the original Huyck Felt Mill. Founded in 1870 by Mr. Francis Conkling Huyck, the mill was in operation until it was destroyed by a flood in 1878, and operations relocated to a new facility constructed just outside the city of Albany. The mill site and surrounding lands were converted into a nature preserve--and later research station--by Huyck's wife, Jessie Van Antwerp, following his death in 1930.
