I think the thing that surprises me most about the Lake Placid Olympic ice rinks is how *small* they are in comparison to (e.g.) Rochester's ice arena. It's understandable that attendance would be limited back in 1932 due to the expense and difficulty of travel, but not in 1980. Still, Salt Lake City's ice arena is of a similar size...
